Mamaw's intuitive powers...

...still amaze me, even though I've seen them in action so many times.

Less than 24 hours after naming this blog, I was on about my third phone call with her this morning, when she said, "Somebody sure did a beautiful job on my yard out there. I'm looking out this family room window and gosh it's pretty."

I said, "Yep, the new guy really is working out."

"New man? There's a new man doing my yard? What happened to Mr. W?

"Mr. W retired this year."

Mamaw skipped half a beat before using one of her favorite phrases. She said, "I guess that's the way the little ball bounces." Then she hesitated just a second before adding with a slight chuckle, "That's something we used to say in my family from the time I was little. My mom and daddy and all of us used to say that all the time. That's the way the little ball bounces."

It was one of those stunning Mamaw moments for me. In the many, many times I've heard her say that, she has never bothered to explain it, and it never crossed my mind to ask her to.

When we hung up, I asked my partner if her mom had ever mentioned where it came from. Nope. Never. We both just had to shake our heads and smile, totally believing that on some level, Mamaw's aware of this blog and wanted to put it out there where the title came from.

Amazing woman.

  1. Nice looking blog, Pam.
Great story too and I look forward to more as you begin this new adventure. Ours has been much easier than I thought it would be but we don't have some of the challenges y'all do. We will be keeping all of you in our thoughts.
